Plaud App can automatically detect and label different speakers in your transcript. You can then rename each speaker for easy identification.
What is speaker naming?
Speaker naming lets you replace the default speaker labels in a transcript with real names. When you transcribe a recording, Plaud automatically separates the different speakers and labels them Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. You can then give each speaker a name so the transcript and summary are easier to read and share. Names you add apply to that recording only.
Before you start
- Make sure the recording has finished transcribing, so speaker labels appear in the transcript.
- Speaker naming is available in the Plaud App.
How to name speakers from the menu
- Tap ... in the top-right corner of the recording.
- Tap Name speakers.
- Enter a name for each speaker. The names update in the transcript right away. If you rename a speaker after the summary has already been generated, the summary keeps the original names. To reflect the new names in a summary, generate a new summary by tapping the + icon next to the Summary or Notepad tabs.
How to rename a speaker by tapping the label
- Tap any Speaker label in the transcript.
- Enter the speaker’s name and confirm.
Tip: When naming a speaker, choose to apply the name to just that paragraph or to all paragraphs with the same speaker label. Names you add apply to this recording only.
FAQ about speaker labeling
Does Plaud automatically detect different speakers?
Yes. When transcribing, Plaud automatically separates the different speakers in a recording. Other speakers are labeled Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on, and you can name them in each recording. If you've added your voice profile, Plaud labels you automatically.
Can I rename a speaker across the whole transcript at once?
Yes. After tapping a speaker label and entering a name, choose to apply it to all paragraphs with the same speaker.
How many speakers can Plaud detect?
Plaud can detect and label multiple speakers in a recording. For best results, ensure each speaker’s voice is clearly distinguishable in the audio.
Can I remove a speaker's name and go back to the default label?
No. Once a speaker is named, the label can't be cleared back to the default label (for example, Speaker 1) — it can only be replaced with a different name. If a name was applied to the wrong paragraph, tap the Speaker label on that paragraph and enter the correct name.
To get a transcript without speaker labels, turn off speaker labeling and generate a new transcription:
- Go to Settings \> Preferences \> Auto speaker labeling and toggle off Label my voice automatically.
- Generate a new transcription for the recording.
This setting applies to the whole transcript — speaker labels can't be removed for individual speakers or paragraphs.
Will names I add carry over to other recordings?
No. Plaud automatically recognizes only your own voice, if you've added your voice profile. Names you add for other speakers apply to that recording only.
What happens to speaker names if I re-transcribe a recording?
Re-transcribing a recording removes the speaker names you've added and resets the labels to Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. If you've added your voice profile, Plaud still labels you automatically. Speaker names in other recordings aren't affected.
Can I turn off automatic speaker labeling?
Yes. Open the Plaud App and go to Settings \> Preferences \> Auto speaker labeling, then toggle off Label my voice automatically. You can turn it back on from the same screen at any time.
