What is Ask Based on a Single File?
Ask Based on a Single File is a mode within Ask Plaud. It limits the AI's analysis to one specific recording.
It bases all responses on your file's transcript and summary, and attaches clickable timestamps to every answer so you can verify them. This mode supports both open questions and pre-built Quick Actions.
How to ask a question about a single file?
Open Ask Plaud within any recording and use one of two ways:
- Type a question: Enter your question in the ASK field at the bottom of the screen. For example: "What was the product launch date mentioned?"
- Use Quick Actions: Tap a pre-built button for common tasks, including Summarize, Get Insights, Generate To-Dos, and Write Email.

FAQ about Ask Based on a Single File
How does this differ from Ask Across All Files?
Ask Based on a Single File limits the AI's analysis to one specific recording, which gives you more depth for a single meeting. Ask Across All Files searches your entire library. Use it when you do not know which file holds the information you need.
Why are clickable timestamps included in the response?
Timestamps let you verify any answer. Tap a link to go directly to that moment in your transcript, so you can confirm each response against your original audio.
Can I save an Ask Plaud response for future reference?
Yes. Tap the save icon to attach any response as a note to your recording. Saved notes are available in both the Plaud App and Plaud Web.
