Your files, settings, and subscription carry over when you upgrade. This article covers whether you need to upgrade, what happens during the upgrade, and what to expect afterward.
Do I have to upgrade?
You don't need to update right away. The new version rolls out through the App Store and Google Play in stages, so automatic updates may reach your phone at different times. You can keep using your current version for now, but older versions may not receive new features. You may see a notice about the new version, and you can update the Plaud Mobile App manually in your app store whenever you're ready.
Can I go back to my previous version?
No. Once your account upgrades, downgrading to your previous version isn't supported. If you're not ready, you don't need to update yet.
What happens during the upgrade?
When you open the updated Plaud Mobile App for the first time, a short setup guides you through the upgrade:
- See what's new: swipe through the new features, including Ask Plaud's Chat and Work modes, then tap Next.
-
Auto summary: Auto-summarize new recordings is on by default. Turn it off if you prefer, then tap Continue.
-
Help improve Plaud: tap Share data or Don't share.
- Upgrading: keep the Mobile App open while your files move over.
-
Get started: after the upgrade, the Welcome to Plaud App 4.0 screen appears.
The setup doesn't ask you to buy anything. If the Mobile App closes during the upgrade, it picks up where it left off the next time you open it. The upgrade applies to your whole account, so you only need to do it once.
If the upgrade stalls or shows an error, see Upgrade didn't finish.
Will my files and data carry over?
Yes. Your recordings, transcripts, notes, and templates migrate automatically. The upgrade runs in two parts: cloud setup first, then your local files migrate in the background, so your recording list may fill in gradually. If the Mobile App closes during migration, it resumes on the next launch.
Keep the Plaud Mobile App installed during the upgrade. Uninstalling mid-upgrade permanently deletes recordings that haven't migrated yet. Make sure you have a stable network and enough phone storage before starting.
Do my subscription and minutes carry over?
Yes. Plans, pricing, and transcription minutes stay the same. Ask Plaud's Chat mode doesn't use Plaud Credits, and you receive free Plaud Credits to try Work mode. See Does upgrading change my subscription?.
Do I need to set up my devices again?
No. Devices bound to your account are migrated automatically during the upgrade, so you don't need to bind them again.
What changes the most?
See What's new in Plaud Mobile App? for a summary of automatic transcription and summaries, the calendar view, and Ask Plaud with its Chat and Work modes.
