Protect your account with 6-digit codes from an authenticator app (TOTP). Any standard app works, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, or Authy.
Before you start
- Install an authenticator app on your phone. Any standard TOTP app works.
- Each Plaud account can bind one authenticator at a time.
- Have your password ready, or your Google or Apple sign-in if that's how you signed up.
How to set up the authenticator?
- Go to Settings > Account & security > Security > Two-step verification and turn on Authenticator app.
- Verify your identity. If you haven't set up two-step verification yet, enter your password; if Email OTP is already on, verify with an email code instead. Google or Apple accounts re-authorize with their provider. If both are linked, choose either one.
- Enter the setup key in your authenticator app (Copy setup key copies it), or tap Scan QR code instead to scan it. The QR code expires after 10 minutes; tap it to regenerate if needed.
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app to confirm.
- Save the backup codes (Recovery Codes) that Plaud generates for you. They're only shown once: use Copy all or Download as text file, then tap I've saved them. If you skip this step, you can generate a new set later in your security settings, but we recommend saving them now.
Once confirmed, the authenticator becomes your primary two-step verification method. If you had Email OTP enabled, it stays available as a backup.
FAQ about authenticator setup
Can I use the same setup on two devices?
Yes. Apps that sync, such as 1Password or Authy, can hold the same code on several devices.
Can I bind two different authenticator apps separately?
Each account holds one authenticator binding. Adding a new one replaces the old one, and the old key stops working immediately.
