Moving to a new phone? Rebind your authenticator so your two-step verification codes follow you.
Before you start
- Each account holds one authenticator binding. Rebinding invalidates the old key immediately.
- Rebinding also regenerates your backup codes (Recovery Codes): all previous codes stop working, so be ready to save the new set.
- You'll need to verify your identity with your current primary method, a backup code, or Email OTP if enabled.
How to change the authenticator device?
- Go to Settings > Account & security > Security > Two-step verification.
- Tap Reset authenticator. You'll go straight to identity verification; there's no extra confirmation step.
- Verify your identity.
- Scan the new QR code with the authenticator app on your new phone, or enter the key manually.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the new device to confirm.
- Save the new backup codes Plaud generates — your previous backup codes no longer work.
If you no longer have the old phone and no backup method, tap Get help verifying on the verification screen. See the article "Can't complete two-step verification" for details.
FAQ about changing devices
Does rebinding change my backup codes?
Yes. Changing your authenticator device regenerates your backup codes: Plaud creates a new set and all previous codes stop working. Save the new set when it appears.
