Set up an authenticator app to protect your account with 6-digit codes. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, and Authy all work.
Before you start
- Install an authenticator app on your phone. Any standard TOTP app works.
- Each Plaud account can bind one authenticator at a time.
- Have your password ready, or your Google or Apple sign-in if that's how you signed up.
How to set up the authenticator?
- On the Web, click your workspace name in the top-left corner and go to Settings → Account & security → Two-step verification, then click Set up next to Authenticator app.
- Verify your identity. If you haven't set up two-step verification yet, enter your password; if the email verification code is already on, verify with an email code instead. Google or Apple accounts re-authorize with their provider. If both are linked, choose either one.
- In the Scan code in authenticator app dialog, scan the QR code with the authenticator app on your phone. Can't scan? Click Copy setup key instead and paste the key into your authenticator app. The QR code expires after 10 minutes; regenerate it if needed.
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app and click Continue to confirm.
- In the Save your backup codes dialog, save the 6 backup codes Plaud generates for you. They're only shown once: use Copy all or Download as text file, then click I've saved them. If you skip this step, you can generate a new set later in your security settings, but we recommend saving them now.
Once confirmed, the authenticator becomes your primary two-step verification method. If you had the email verification code enabled, it stays available as a backup.
FAQ about authenticator setup
Can I use the same setup on two devices?
Yes. Apps that sync, such as 1Password or Authy, can hold the same code on several devices.
Can I bind two different authenticator apps separately?
Each account holds one authenticator binding. Adding a new one replaces the old one, and the old key stops working immediately.
