Attach real names to Speaker Labels, one paragraph or all at once.
Applies to: v4.0.x or later. Still using v3.30.x or earlier Plaud Web? See Name Speakers.
How to name speakers?
- Make sure speaker labeling is on when generating the transcript.
- On the file page, find the Speakers row and click a speaker chip (e.g. Speaker 1). You can also click a speaker label inside the transcript.
- In the Name speakers dialog, type the name, then click Save. Sample clips of that speaker help you confirm who it is. Speaker names are updated automatically throughout this file, including the summary. Names you add apply to this recording only. Use Manage speaker labels to manage your voice profile and speaker labeling settings.
Good to know
- A name you've added can be replaced but not cleared back to the default label. Re-transcribing resets all names to Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. To remove labels entirely, regenerate the transcript with Label my voice automatically turned off. Heads up: re-transcribing also replaces the summary and your notes on the file, so copy anything you want to keep first.
- When a calendar event is linked, its participants are offered as name options when you name speakers. You choose who is who; Plaud doesn't automatically match participants to speakers. See the meeting info article in the Plaud Mobile App section.
FAQ about naming speakers
Does renaming consume transcription minutes?
No. Renaming is free and doesn't re-run AI.
Will names I add carry over to other recordings?
No. Plaud automatically recognizes only your own voice, if you've added your voice profile. Names you add for other speakers apply to that recording only.
What happens to speaker names if I re-transcribe?
Re-transcribing a recording removes the speaker names you've added and resets the labels to Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. If you've added your voice profile, Plaud still labels you automatically. Speaker names in other recordings aren't affected.
