To talk to the AI assistant on Plaud One, hold the AI button and speak. Release the button, and the reply plays back as voice. Your Plaud One conversation runs in Ask Plaud's Chat or Work mode.
How do I use the AI button?
- Press and hold the AI button on the charging case. The status light lights up in color while the assistant is listening.
- Say your question or request, then release the button.
- The reply plays through your earbuds if you're wearing them, or through the case speaker if you're not.
Speak and listen in turns: say your part, release, and wait for the reply before continuing.
Which mode does Plaud One use?
Your Plaud One conversation runs in one of Ask Plaud's two modes:
- Chat: ask questions about your recordings, search the web, or check your connected Google Calendar. Chat doesn't use Plaud Credits.
- Work: Plaud Agent takes on tasks, such as drafting follow-ups, creating documents, running Skills and Routines, and acting in your connected tools. Work uses Plaud Credits.
Your first Plaud One conversation starts in Chat. After that, Plaud One keeps the mode you last chose for it. This choice applies only to Plaud One and is the same on the Plaud Mobile App and Plaud Web; switching modes in your other Ask Plaud conversations doesn't change it.
If you ask for something Chat can't do, Plaud tells you and suggests Work mode.
How do I switch modes?
You choose the mode in a new, empty Plaud One conversation.
On the Plaud Mobile App
- Tap ☰, then tap Ask Plaud.
- Tap Plaud One.
- Before sending anything, choose Chat or Work at the top of the screen.
On Plaud Web
- Click Ask Plaud in the left sidebar.
- Click Plaud One in the conversation list.
- Before sending anything, choose Chat or Work at the bottom right of the message box.
The change applies to Plaud One everywhere, including requests you make with the AI button.
If your Plaud One conversation already has messages, start a new chat first:
- On the Plaud Mobile App, tap the new chat button at the top right of the Plaud One page. On Plaud Web, hover over Plaud One in the conversation list and click +.
- In Start a new Plaud One chat?, tap or click Start new chat. Your current chat is saved in Recents as a regular conversation. To skip this prompt next time, select Don't ask again.
- Choose Chat or Work in the new, empty chat before sending anything.
The mode locks as soon as the first message is sent, whether from the Mobile App, the Web, or Plaud One itself. To change it again, start another new Plaud One conversation.
What can I ask the assistant to do?
Your assistant works with the context of your recorded conversations. In Chat, ask what was said in a meeting, get a quick briefing before your next one, or review your week. In Work, Plaud Agent can draft follow-ups, act across connected tools, and run recurring Routines. For details, see Ask Plaud: Chat and Work modes and Talk to Plaud Agent with your voice.
Can I talk to the assistant from the earbuds?
- The AI button is on the case. The earbud controls don't trigger the assistant.
- Voice activation with "Hey Plaud" through the earbuds isn't available. Use the AI button on the case to talk to your assistant.

Does talking to the assistant use Plaud Credits?
Only in Work mode. Chat mode doesn't use Plaud Credits. See What are Plaud Credits?
Does switching modes in another conversation change Plaud One?
No. Plaud One keeps its own mode. Only a switch made in a new, empty Plaud One conversation changes it.
