Short answer
No. Plaud does not automatically redact patient-identifiable information (such as names, date of birth, or medical record numbers) that is spoken in a recording before it is processed by an AI model.
What this means
If you say identifiable information in the audio, that information may appear in the recording and/or transcript and may be included in the data used to generate the requested AI output.
How Plaud handles data with third-party AI providers
When Plaud uses third-party large language model (LLM) providers to generate an output, the relevant data (e.g., audio/transcript content) is transmitted in real time solely to produce the requested result and is deleted immediately after processing (no storage/retention for that processing step).
Model training
Plaud states it does not use collected personal data to train its models.
What you can do to protect privacy
- Avoid speaking PHI/PII when possible (use placeholders like "Patient A").
- Remove identifiers before using AI features if your workflow requires de-identification.
- If you have compliance requirements (e.g., healthcare policies), review them before uploading or processing recordings.
