Auto speaker labeling separates speech by speaker in your transcript. If you add your own voice profile, Plaud can automatically label your speech with your name. Plaud does not automatically identify other speakers. They appear as Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. You can name them manually, and those names apply only to that recording.
Applies to: v3.30.x or earlier. Already using v4.0.x or later Plaud Mobile App? See Auto speaker labeling.
What is auto speaker labeling?
Plaud separates the different speakers in each recording and labels them Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. If you've added your voice profile, Plaud labels you automatically. Names you add for other speakers apply to that recording only.
Before you start
- Add your own voice profile so Plaud can recognize you in recordings. Other speakers don't need voice profiles; you can name them in each recording.
How to enable auto speaker labeling?
- Open the Plaud App and go to Settings
- Go to Preferences
- Go to Auto speaker labeling
- Toggle on Label my voice automatically. This turns on speaker labeling for new recordings: Plaud separates the speakers and, if you've added your voice profile, labels you automatically. When it's off, new transcripts don't include speaker labels, including yours. Optionally, toggle on Sync voice profile across devices to keep your voice profile updated across all your signed-in devices. If you turn off sync later, your voice profile is removed from the cloud
How to add your voice profile?
- In the Auto speaker labeling settings, tap Add your voice profile
- Grant microphone access when prompted and tap Next
- Name the voice profile (e.g., your name) and tap Next
- Tap Start and speak for at least 30 seconds for best recognition accuracy
How to name other speakers
Other speakers don't need voice profiles. Open a recording, tap a speaker label in the transcript, and enter the name. You can apply the name to that paragraph or to all paragraphs from that speaker. Names you add apply to that recording only.
To show the names in your summary, regenerate the summary after naming the speakers.
FAQ about auto speaker labeling
Can I rename or edit speaker labels after transcription?
Yes. You can edit speaker labels directly in the transcript view after generating the transcript.
Does auto speaker labeling work in all languages?
Auto speaker labeling works alongside transcription regardless of language, as speaker separation is based on voice characteristics rather than spoken content.
How do I turn off auto speaker labeling?
Go to Settings > Preferences > Auto speaker labeling — the same place where you enabled it — and toggle off Label my voice automatically. New transcripts won't include speaker labels, including yours.
Does Plaud recognize other speakers automatically?
Plaud automatically recognizes only your own voice. Other speakers are labeled Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on, and you can name them in each recording.
Why doesn't Plaud label other speakers automatically anymore?
We've changed how speaker labels work. Plaud now automatically labels only your own voice, based on your voice profile. Other speakers appear as Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on, and you can name them in each recording. Your existing transcripts and the speaker names in them are not affected.
Can I delete my voice profile?
Yes. In the Auto speaker labeling settings, tap your voice profile and choose the option to delete it.
Why don't I see speaker labels on my existing transcripts?
Speaker labels are applied during transcription and cannot be added retroactively to transcripts that have already been generated. To apply speaker labels to an existing recording, open it and retranscribe with Label my voice automatically enabled.
