Overview
Forgetting to stop recording does not use transcription minutes by itself. However, if you transcribe a long recording that contains silence, the silent parts are included in the audio duration and will count toward your transcription minutes.
How to avoid wasting transcription minutes
To reduce the audio length before you transcribe, use one of these options:
Option 1: Smart Clip (recommended)
Smart Clip automatically detects and removes (or skips) silent sections.
- Open the recording in the Plaud App
- Tap Smart Clip
- Review the result and Save as a new file
- Transcribe the new file
Option 2: Trim / Delete silence manually
- Open the recording you want to edit
- Tap Clip
- Drag the sliders/handles to select the silent or unnecessary parts
- Tap Trim/Delete and Save as a new file
- Transcribe the new file
Notes
- If you already transcribed the original recording, you’ll need to transcribe the edited file again to reflect the shorter duration.
- Building a habit of stopping recordings promptly is the best prevention, and editing tools can help if you occasionally forget.
